How much is it for prenatal care, birth, and postpartum care?
We charge a cash price of $6,000 USD for both home and birth . This is paid in monthly increments with the balance due in full by 36 weeks. The price is the same for both home birth and birth center births.
What type of midwives are in your practice? We are a team of Certified Professional Midwives, or CPM, through the North American Registry of Midwives. We have chosen the direct entry pathway into midwifery. The state of Utah is unique in that is allows direct entry midwives the option to license with the state or not. Two of our midwives have chosen to license and one has chosen to remain unlicensed. There are benefits to both licensure and non-licensure. We provide a perfect mix of the options available to families looking for an out of hospital birth.
Do I get to choose my midwife?
You’ll get to know each of the three midwives in our practice during your appointments. Two of the three midwives, along with a trained birth assistant, will be at your birth. We attend all births as a two midwife team whenever possible, so you will have two certified midwives to care for you and your baby, should you and your baby both need care at the same time. We work in an on call rotation so that our midwives are able to balance work and family life and provide safe care for our clients.
Are you a licensed birth center?
We chose to remain unlicensed due to the strict protocols licensure requires, (i.e. water temperature below 99 degrees, at least 18 months between pregnancies, low BMI, head down babies, and other disqualifiers that are seen as medium-low risk.)
Do you take insurance?
We are happy to submit your care to your insurance to be applied to your out-of-network deductible. We work with all health shares.
What happens if I have to transfer regarding payment?
If you transfer prior to 36 weeks, we will itemize your care and provide a refund for any overpayment. If you transfer in labor, the full fee is still due as we have provided on-call time, limited our client load, and provided labor support. We can resume postpartum care once you are discharged from the hospital if you choose.
How many clients do you take per month?
We try to keep our client load low so that we can provide personalized care to each and every one of our clients. We take around 4 clients per month.
What if my baby is breech?
We are able to attempt an External Cephalic Version (ECV) to try to coax baby into a head down position. If your baby is stubborn or an ECV is contraindicated, Bonnie Baker has trained with Breech Without Borders and has chosen to remain unlicensed so that she can provide vaginal breech births to those who qualify. If you choose not to attempt a vaginal breech birth or ECV, you will need a cesarean. We offer various support options in the event of a transfer.
What if I bleed too much after delivery?
Some blood loss after delivery is normal. We try to utilize herbs first, however, if you are bleeding more than we are comfortable Karina and Kandice are licensed with the State of Utah and can skillfully administer the same anti-hemorrhagic medication the hospitals carry.
Do you work with doulas?
We LOVE doulas! Bonnie, Karina and Kandice were all doulas for 10 years before becoming midwives and have personally seen the success and empowerment doulas are able to facilitate. We want families to feel supported as much as possible and to encourage families to include the support they desire we offer a $100 discount when you hire any professional doula, and a $300 discount when hiring our colleagues at Davis County Doulas.
